Who We Are:
Elecfrica Magazine is Africa’s premier media outlet that is dedicated solely to the advocacy and promotion of electric vehicles and renewable energy sources within Africa. Our impassioned campaign for research and development, and mass adoption of green technology and clean power production stems from our clear understanding of Africa’s unique challenge of inaccessibility to electricity.
In other parts of the world, renewable energy represents a means of becoming energy efficient, paying less at the pump, slashing utility bills, combating environmental damages caused by greenhouse gas emissions, and the creation of employment opportunities in the process. In Africa, on the other hand, the situation is currently reversed, and the majority of Africans are considered impoverished by global standards. Renewable energy presents an opportunity to connect Africans to the electrical power that will provide a means to increase the livelihood of millions. Additional benefits include but are not limited to being able to provide consistent healthcare for the sick and elderly, improving the educational experience of children in both formal and informal institutions, as well as encouraging an increase in the entrepreneurial innovations released from African countries. Renewable energy sources also allow the African continent to potentiate the least performing collection of economies in the world, as well as the remediation of the most polluted environments in the world.
This leads us to believe that cultivating an environmentally compassionate attitude while making substantial investments in green technology is the key to Africa’s socioeconomic development and environmental improvement. Statistically, most African countries lag behind other countries around the globe in critical sectors, especially the energy sector which spins the wheels of socioeconomic development. According to the International Energy Agency, “Close to 600 million people are still without access to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa.” To put this in a different way, the number of sub-Saharan Africans without access to electricity is approximately equal to the combined total population of the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Spain, and Italy. No other continent comes anywhere close to suffering this same fate. This great loss of productivity and revenue can be reversed if Africa commits to investing in technology that is equally sustainable and environmentally safe.
What We Do
- As ambassadors of clean energy in Africa, we enlighten, educate, and demonstrate the benefits of green technology.
- We campaign passionately for the mass adoption of electric vehicles.
- We show Africans how to create opportunities for themselves and make a living in the renewable energy sector.
- We highlight the points in the green energy sector value chain to which African entrepreneurs and startup businessmen can attach their ventures and have great returns on their investments.
- We advise, and act as a matchmaker between manufacturers of renewable energy products and end users.
- We inspire young Africans to channel their creative energies towards the renewable energy sector as we believe that their best chance of success lies in investing in the technology of today, as well as the technology of the future.
- We believe that by incorporating and utilizing the innovative technologies available in the renewable energy industry, Africa can be unlocked from the handcuffs and leg shackles of economic slavery. Through proper investment and utilization of renewable energy, African will be able to enjoy true independence and respectability.
What We Are Up Against
By most conventional economic metrics, Africa is known to have the poorest countries in the world. Poor people are naturally poor ambassadors of sustainability or anything that promises to pay dividends in the future since their needs are immediate and their options are limited.
Many Africans are inclined to live a life of desperation, overlooking future opportunities with no regards to consequentiality. Due to the dire circumstances of the majority of African countries, Africans are forced to focus primarily on their immediate needs. They neither make plans for the future nor prepare it for the next generation. They are conditioned to a life of the short game, and rarely set their sights farther than their noses.
Unfortunately, Africa is currently the antithesis of sustainable living. Simply put, a greater majority of Africans do not find the issue of climate change particularly concerning, neither do they see the necessity to be a part of any sustained effort aimed at averting the impending dangers of what could happen to our planet 50 years from now. They are only trying to get through today as best as they can with limited resources. This explains why the green technology movement has been a tough sell in Africa especially when the spiel is about healing the world.
Our Strategy to Overcoming the Challenge
Fortunately, the clean energy revolution is much more than a mere measure of attempting to slow the progression of a warming globe. The economic benefits of renewable energy sources are fantastic because they hold the potential to boost Africa onto the global stage for economical and entrepreneurial leadership within an unprecedentedly short span of time.
This succinctly encapsulates the principle by which our strategies are guided. We work towards building the capacity for renewable energy sources through education. Through the formation of collaborative partnerships, we enlist the support of local, regional, and global governments, corporations, institutions, and organizations to advocate for, put forth the necessary framework, and build the critical infrastructure required to enable the development, incorporation, and the mass adoption of green technology in Africa as it represents the needed game changing opportunity to get Africa caught up with the rest of the world.
Together, lets see what we can do with renewable energy to bring Africa into the present while preparing a brighter future for the next generation!
