Africans are no fools. Fools, the saying goes, say hello when they should say goodbye, and, conversely, say goodbye when they should say hello. So, please, Africa, say hello to Electric Vehicles (EVs), because the world is saying goodbye to gasoline cars.
Say hello to Tesla, Africa. This new kid on the block has bested your favorite automaker, Toyota, to become the most valuable car manufacturer in the world. Tesla’s total worth quadruples that of Toyota, a feat it accomplishes in one decade. The brevity of its existence might of course explains why probably 9 out of every 10 Africans probably haven’t even heard of it. But it’s about time you made an acquaintance of this brand. Tesla ought to be your new best friend because it represents, and can present you with the one thing that you’ve always wanted so desperately; clean energy. Tesla makes electric vehicles, and it’s the best to have ever done it. So far, it has left its competition in the thick cloud of its dusts, and there isn’t any hint that it will ever ease off the pedal.
In a bid to become the comeback kid, or to keep its distant second position on the depth chart, Toyota is aggressively fighting back with an ambitious EV agenda of its own. Truth be told, Toyota deserves a clap on the back for adopting the impeccable, and time proven strategy; if you can’t beat them, join them. It’s no longer feasible to beat electric vehicles with gasoline vehicles, so it makes sense to do what Tesla does best; make electric vehicles.
Electric mobility is the present and the future. As a matter of fact, 3 out of the top 5 most valuable automobile manufacturers are traditional electric vehicles makers (#1 Tesla, #4 BYD, #5 NIO). The non traditional EV makers that made the list (#2 Toyota, #3 Volkswagen) both have a strong platform and have shown a massive effort to electrify their lines.
So, here’s the big takeaway, Africa, the adoption of electric vehicles is the way forward. Join the rest of the world and embrace this trend, and it will set you free, saves you money, and heal your pollution ridden environment.
Know this, Africa, contrary to what you are made to believe, EVs check more boxes for the less affluent than for the rich. Electric vehicles save you money at the pump, save you money on maintenance and repairs, save you frequent trips to the doctor thereby slashing your medical bills in that it emits into your environment none of the harmful substance that makes you sick, and also alleviate the intense noise pollution that are emblematic of most African cities.
Electric vehicles, Africa, electric vehicles!
